Hi all,
Just a reminder the chemistry labs will be closed Monday - Wednesday next week. Instruments are still runnable.
There will be no lab meeting next Tuesday either. In lieu, some of us will head to the pub after work on Thursday to celebrate Prof. Madgwick's recent ERC success! Feel free to join :)
Have a wet and wild weekend!

Hi all,
Just FYI you are ok to use the lab as it hasn’t succumbed to yesterday’s great floods.
Cheers,
Edward

Dear all
Next Thursday is our EARTH Professional Services Christmas lunch.
The School Office will close from 1300 for the remainder of the afternoon. Abby has communicated this to our students and staff. Many professional services will not necessarily be available during the afternoon, so if you need anything please contact people before 1300.
Lindsey will communicate to research lab users as some of our research labs will not be open next Thursday afternoon. However, some of our research and teaching labs (for timetabled activities) will remain open and working. Please liaise with individuals if needed to double check.
If you have any questions please get in touch with me.
Thanks all
John

Hi all,
A short Wednesday afternoon update for you on the gas detection system. It seems that both HF detectors in the clean labs have now failed. In order to save your sanity (and mine) from the constant triggering of the alarm or system fault tone on the panel, we have now disabled both HF sensors totally.
During this time, and as Lindsey said in her previous email, no HF work is to be undertaken until the sensors have been replaced in the new year.
As always, if you have any questions, then please get in touch :)
Cheers,
Edward

Hi everyone,
Just a quick heads-up, the microwave system in 1.21 is currently out of use. If anybody was hoping to use it before Christmas please take that into consideration. If you need to use it after Christmas, feel free to email me so I can keep you posted on how the repairs are going 🙂
Another little note - I've added silicon hair catchers on the drains in both the clean labs. This is just to make sure no little things like pipette tips or other small items go down the drain and clog up the water pump.
Cheers,
Sofiya

Hi all,
For your information the labs (clean rooms and instruments) will close for a hard earned festive break between 1630 on Thursday 19th December and 0830 on Monday 13th January. Between these times there will be no access to the labs.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi everyone,
As you may be aware, following the recent fire alarm we discovered the HF sensors, though still working when the engineer tested and calibrated them last Thursday, are coming to the end of their life. As we can not have complete confidence in them, all HF work must stop until the sensors are replaced in the new year. The CELTIC clean labs will still be open for non-HF chemistry.
I will let you know when we expect the sensors to be replaced once I have more info from the contractor/Estates.
In the interim, the faulty HF sensors are likely to trigger the local gas alarm. Please treat any alarm as a real alarm and immediately vacate the labs. Please ensure everyone working within the CELTIC facility leaves the lab and the 'do not enter' sign is posted on the outer door.
Please then contact Edward or myself to check the gas detection system, reset it, and let you know it is safe to re-enter.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hi all,
Just to let you know the ratchet that locks the sash on hood 2 in the clean lab is broken. I have done a temporary repair while the new part arrives but for the moment please don’t try and adjust the sash high - it must remain in its current position.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
We have checked the lab and it appears to be a fault with one of the gas alarm sensors. We have reset the system and you are all okay to use the lab as normal.
Cheers,
Edward
