Hi everyone,
Apologies for forgetting to mention this in the lab meeting yesterday.
There are two new proposed timeslots for the lab meetings – Monday morning or Tuesday morning. I have put up a poll on Teams for you to choose a time you prefer. If you cannot vote then feel free to sent a message with a time. If you are fine with either timeslot – feel free to also drop a message (I’m not sure if you can select both, Teams polls is a bit picky).
Thanks everyone! Hope you can enjoy the sun while we have it 😊
Many thanks,
Sofiya

Dear all,
To reiterate what was said in the lab meeting for those that were not there. The lab is cleaned fortnightly on a Friday afternoon according to the rota made by Sofiya. If you cannot attend the cleaning that you are rostered for you must let Sofiya know. If you fail to attend your cleaning you will be added onto additional weeks to make up for the additional workload on your colleagues.
The protocol for cleaning the lab is found on teams in the induction and training folder. It is not up to individual users to decide if they want to follow this protocol or disagree with it. If you have an issue with the way I am asking you to clean the lab then please come and discuss it directly with me and not take it upon yourselves to tell others that it is pointless to clean in such a way.
Finally, I need to reiterate the nature of the way we operate in the lab. We need to talk to each other with respect, regardless of experience level. Just because one user may have experience of working in another lab does not give them a carte blanche to patronise or correct another user that has been trained only in our lab. Failure to work in a collegiate manner and treat your colleagues with the respect they deserve is not acceptable and I simply will not allow it to happen.
As always my door is always open if you want to come and chat about anything, no matter how minor.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Please note that risk assessments for work involving HF acid have been updated detailing risks associated with using HF acid and pregnancy.
Can all HF users please read the revised risk assessments and date the appropriate column in the training record. For reference the RAs are CELTIC36, CELTIC20 and CELTIC29.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Both iCAPs are now up and running. The software issue on the laser instrument is resolved and we have rectified the electronics issue which was causing issues with the detector on the solution instrument. Additionally the solution instrument has a new autosampler installed (which is calibrated and working correctly). Please note the probe arm is fixed on this new autosampler so you will break it if you drive it to a position where a vial is capped and it ramps down into the vial lid. Therefore please, please, please remember to uncap all of your samples and standards when using it. Otherwise you will break the (very expensive) carbon fibre probe arm and this will need to be replaced.
Cheers,
Edward

Good morning,
Just a reminder that we will meet at 11am today in 1.58.
I am aware we need to move the time of the lab meeting as it clashes with research group meetings. We can discuss a new time this morning.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is doing alright working from home today.
There's been a couple of worries with the booking sheet for next week being impacted by the building being closed for today. This is to confirm - please follow the booking sheet. If you had a slot booked in on either the hoods or the instruments for Friday, please do not come in next week and assume you can continue your Friday work during any of the slots. Please book yourself in using the system. If you really need to take an earlier slot, just ask to swap with someone. As long as you communicate with everyone, that's completely fine but please don't assume it's fine, always ask with whoever you want to swap with.
Thanks again everyone! See you Monday/ Tuesday/ whenever we're allowed in.
Best wishes,
Sofiya
PS - Happy Friday!

Hi all,
Just to give you with another update on the status of the iCAP RQs. We have now found that the detector on the RQ solution is life expired and will need replacing. I will raise a ticket with Thermo and they will need to send an engineer to replace it. Likely time frame is 1-2 weeks (but that is not a binding time frame).
I will update when both are back online.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
As promised your afternoon update on the iCAP. I have not been able to move the ASX-560 autosampler over to solution RQ as we have had an issue with the laser RQ while Ece is on some dedicated laser training with ESI. As such we have had to move the laser over to the solution RQ. Once the issue is rectified with the laser RQ I can move things back around and try the ASX-560 autosampler on the solution RQ.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi everyone,
Picking up from the lab meeting - from June 7th onwards the lab cleaning schedule is empty. Instead of assigning people and having everyone wonder which day, if they will be available or on holiday, would everyone please sign up on days they would like to/ are available to clean? We can try this system out instead of a poll on Teams.
To make it fair, if you will be using the lab facilities often, please do sign-up. If not enough people sign up for a session, I will be emailing people to have them join if they've been in the lab very often but haven't/won't clean in a while. Fingers crossed this system works better for everyone!
Many thanks,
Sofiya
PS - I still have rose Turkish delights in my office from Bulgaria. If people would like some sweets, feel free to come by.
