Hi All,
Estates will need to access the South Central roof on Friday 11th April. This is to carry out the long awaited repairs to the Element 2 duct work.
All CELTIC extraction (all instruments and clean labs) will be out of use for the day and this work may go on into Monday if the work is not completed on Friday.
@Emily Holt<mailto:HoltE@cardiff.ac.uk>, we'll need to move your Friday work to another day, and Emily and @Gwendoline Maurer<mailto:MaurerG@cardiff.ac.uk>, potentially your planned work for the Monday.
Thanks everyone,
Lindsey

Hi Everyone,
Marc, Morten and I are unable to attend next Monday's CELTIC meeting, so here's a few updates..
Some good news- the large chiller out in the courtyard has been repaired, and the coil unit on the ceiling in the chiller room, -1.42B, is now also up and running. This is cooling the room adequately to start using the Nu again.
The Helium regulators have both been replaced on the laser and iCAP solution and the gas bottles will remain in their positions for now but will be moved in a few weeks to the end of the bench (near the door) for easier access. Once moved, and easily accessible, it would be sensible to close the gas bottles when they are not in use.
Fiona, I can show you how to do this for the cylinder on the iCAP. Paul/Morten you can do this for the He bottle on the laser in it's current position too.
The Job description for Ed's role has been written and processed by College HR, so hopefully will go out to advert very soon. In the meantime, we're hoping to have some interim cover for the operational management part of Ed's role from mid-April, and I'll update on this when I can, but until then please continue to get in touch with myself or Sofiya with any issues in the lab, lab inductions or training requirements, or if you need consumables etc.
As mentioned in the last meeting, currently I am still the only HF first responder, but I'll let you know once we have a second person trained in this capacity (likely in the coming month) for cover when I'm offsite
Also, if I'm not onsite, this will be recorded in the notes section on the lab booking sheet along with who to contact with any problems while I'm away.
I've also just updated the [https://res-1.cdn.office.net/assets/mail/file-icon/png/pdf_16x16.png] Earth HF Policy V 5.0 270325.pdf<https://cf.sharepoint.com/:b:/t/CELTIC/EYPxIEXEtDxHuETbS6IUt8MBYVa0SL_KKGc6…>, no major updates, I've just removed Edward as a first responder/trainer etc.
Finally, I've requested a DG EARTH CELTIC mailing list, and we'll switch to this once IT have set it up. This mail list only allows us to adds CU email addresses and most of our visitors will have a one as it's needed to access the mandatory safety training, but to check if we currently have any visitors that don't, you'll need to check here,[https://res.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/assets/mail/file-icon/png/xlsx_16x16.png]visitors to CELTIC without a CU email address.xlsx<https://cf.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/teams/CELTIC/Shared%20Documents/General/vis…>, as these will need to be added separately (there are none that I'm aware of currently, but please update the list if there is).
Have a lovely weekend!
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is enjoying the (somewhat) nice weather we're having!
I'm tidying up the OneDrive a little bit and making a new folder for the instruments - this will include the user manuals, all of them we should have in paper form in the lab but I'm slowly accumulating PDF versions of those so we can have easy access; also include any official guides people have made in the past (for example Michael Nairn and Ana Vizcaino have great guides) and any guides we make in the future (work in progress); also include any other helpful info.
The only help I need from you guys is if you have made any notes or personal guides on the instruments, if you feel comfortable to do so would you mind sending them to me? We can either work together or with other people to create more guides for any missing instruments.
Thanks so much! Have a good one 🙂

Hi Everyone,
The lab is going to be visited by a top level delegation (around 10 or so) from Tianjin Universit<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tju.e…>y (including equivalent of the VC) this morning, approx from 10.40 to 10.50am.
I've left blue overshoes, and also some clean bagged crocs on the floor for the visitors before the stepover- please don't remove these (4 pairs of overshoes vanished yesterday!
The lab is usable as normal, but just so you are aware.
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hi Everyone,
This morning the Oxygen depletion alarm in -1.34B (TIMS room) was alarming, showing 28.3% O2. Given we have no Oxygen cylinders in the lab, this is clearly a faulty sensor. I've inhibited the sensor from the alarm system to enable us to quieten the alarm, and the engineer will attend to swap out the faulty sensor tomorrow morning.
The lab is open for use, but please treat any other alarms as real alarms, until I can confirm otherwise.
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hi all,
I've made the new spreadsheet that we were talking about in the lab meeting yesterday; please find it here [https://res.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/assets/mail/file-icon/png/xlsx_1…] Beakers & Equipment.xlsx<https://cf.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/teams/CELTIC/Shared%20Documents/General/Bea…> . If that link doesn't work for you, it's in the main Files section of the Team, and is called Beakers & Equipment.
If you just populate for now, and then in a short while we can assess (so don't swap around at the moment to make it fair whilst people are working out what they can offload and/or need). Maybe next lab meeting we can then arrange what goes where.
I've put a lovely example line on there for myself. Be as detailed as you can but as you can see from my example, some flexibility in what you're looking for might be helpful.
Thanks,
Sophie

Hi All,
We have an issue with the large chiller outside that cools the instrument room, -1.42, and both clean labs. While the chiller is down, the Nu should not be run as turning on the extra Nu chiller results in very high temperatures in the plant room which puts the Neoma, Tims and Nu at risk.
Hopefully the chiller will be repaired next week.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hi everyone,
For those of you looking to use the iCAP solution over the next week or so, please read on..
The regulator on the Helium cylinder connected to the iCAP solution has expired and will be removed on Thursday (the line has been purged and the cylinder is now closed). It'll then be swapped out over the coming week once the replacement arrives, so no Helium until then. Non-He use can of course continue as usual.
I'll update once it's back in use.
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hello everyone
Many of you will now be aware that Edward will sadly be leaving us next month 😢. Ed has made such a huge contribution to the development of the CELTIC facility over the last 3 years and has been a highly valued member of our technical team. His departure will no doubt leave a huge (Ed shaped) hole in the School that will be very difficult to fill.
A card is in Jenny/John's pigeon hole for you to sign if you wish, and if you would like to contribute to a leaving gift, please leave a contribution in the envelope. Ed's last working day will be in 2 weeks time, 14th March, so the card and collection will be in place until Thurs 13th.
Thanks everyone,
Lindsey
