Hi everyone,
I'm sure everyone (that was in the building today) is the aware of the power-cut, it
was across the entire street not just our building, and the alarm that followed. Celtic is
now open again, Lindsey, Sophie and I have checked it's safe. Tomorrow the
instruments will be checked to make sure everything looks good there as well.
This is more for the future - the fire alarm that followed was because in another lab,
when the power cut off their extraction did as well, and the gas alarm came on because the
room was no longer safe. The alarm did not come on because of us and our work in Celtic,
even though there were HF samples on hot plates. We believe it was because the hoods with
said hot plates were lowered as much as possible, therefore when the extraction stopped
for a few seconds there was still passive extraction, and no dangerous vapours were able
to escape. Please keep this in mind for the future when you have finished working to lower
your sash as much as possible. I understand it's very easy to leave it on the way you
found it or the way it was while you were working but you never know what can happen,
please when you've finished working just lower your sash.
If you have any questions, let me know!
Many thanks,
Sofiya
