Dear all,
Following the incident with the Element 2 and the water ingress to the duct work I need to
make you aware of the risk associated with water leaks and discharge of high voltage (HV)
from the instruments. The Triton, Elements, Neoma and Nu Plasma 2 all use direct current
(DC) HV supplies to their electronics, lenses and magnets. There is a risk that this HV
will discharge if the supplies are submerged. Given that leaks are common in CELTIC there
is an inherent risk of electrocution if you were to make contact with a puddle of water
that was also conducting from the HV of the instrument.
As such, if you come to the lab and find a puddle of water on the floor near one of the
mass specs you must inform me immediately. Ensure that other lab users are aware until I
arrive and can isolate the HV and make it safe.
Cheers,
Edward
