Dear all,
Lizan has managed to get hold of lots of empty acid waste containers from chemistry. These are stored in black bin bags in the iCAP chiller room. Please make sure you label these clearly with the type of reagent and approx concentration.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Estates will carry out work to replace the damaged (but currently working) switch to the fan unit on the roof this Thursday 9th Nov between 8.30-13.30.
This will mean that the all of labs will be taken out of action (clean labs, multicollector room and icap/element labs) for this time. Things should be back up and working Thursday afternoon. I have blocked this out on the booking sheet.
We will let you know when the work has been completed and the labs can be accessed again.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Having just got back to the lab and met with the contractors they have managed to short term fix the extraction fault. This means that the clean labs and multi collector lab is back up and running.
They will have to access the fan unit on the roof to change the faulty switch which will require a roof shutdown (lab shutdown) but this will be at a time convenient to us, chemistry and MDI in the future.
Please feel free to carry on as planned :)
Cheers,
Edward

Dear all,
The extraction system which serves the clean rooms and multi collector lab has failed and these areas are currently out of bounds until it is fixed. Nobody should enter the basement clean labs and multi collector instrument room until further notice.
The trace element labs (iCAPs, Element etc) are still operational and okay to access.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Just FYI both myself and Lindsey will not be on site next week.
The labs are pretty quiet at the moment but just incase anyone was planning any HF work can this wait until Lindsey or myself are back the week after next.
Marc, Morten and Ana will be around so if there is an issue please email one of them.
Cheers,
Edward

Dear all,
Please be reminded that we will be meeting (in person) tomorrow at 11am in 1.58 for our fortnightly lab meeting.
Please make every effort to attend. Its becoming quite frustrating people telling me they weren’t aware of something when it’s been communicated/discussed in these meetings.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
We are going to put on an informal lunch next Thursday 19th for all associated with lab. Because we are so numerous and spread across several schools it will be a good opportunity for everyone to meet and chat. Its going to be a bit later in the afternoon (around 2.30pm). There might even be the prospect of heading to the pub later on.
I’ll communicate the room number and exact timing when I’ve booked everything. Before anyone asks - yes it really is a free lunch :)
Cheers,
Edward

Dear all,
Just to clarify what we need from you in order to give you badge access to the labs. After the 1) induction, 2) HF awareness presentation 3) COSHH, fume cabnet +/- laser safety courses and 4) Spill response procedure have all been completed and recorded on the training record (Training Record.xlsx<https://cf.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/teams/CELTIC/Shared%20Documents/General/Ind…>) you must (and I really mean must) read the risk assessment associated with the procedure you are carrying out and record it in the training record. ALL the risk assessments have changed significantly so if you read it back in 2022 it ain't valid and you must read the new one. The risk assessments can be found in the folder called risk assessments and are grouped according to chemistry or instrument based work.
Once you have completed all the required steps listed above and updated the training record accordingly then you will be granted badge access. This can be arranged by emailing myself and Lindsey to confirm you have completed what we require of you. Only then will you be given badge access.
As a reminder, badge access will only function between the hours of 08.30am - 16.30pm Monday to Friday. If you work will continue outside of this time then please come and discuss this with myself and we can come up with a solution.
Cheers,
Edward
