Hi all,
Just to update you. Despite estates best efforts the pump in the clean room is still not operational. They cant get back over to look at it until monday afternoon at the earliest. For the time being the sinks and MQ unit remains out of action.
The Nu is back up and running and Prof. Millet will test it this afternoon by doing what he does best and running some Sr. The Neoma vacuum is coming down nicely, as is the Triton. The issue with the 24v power supply on the Triton has been fixed. Both the Neoma and Triton will be useable by tomorrow. The iCAPS are operational.
We are still waiting for the AHU chiller to be fixed so it’s a tad warm in the clean rooms and multi collector labs.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Following the electrical shutdown this morning the Nu Plasma 2, Triton and Neoma are now back on line. The vacuum on all three will need some time to come down and the magnets to stabilise on the Triton and Neoma. It’s safe to assume this will take most of the day. Please do not use these instruments until I give the go ahead.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Just to update you on a few things that are going on in the lab this week. Tomorrow the clean labs will be closed for at least the morning while a new water pump is installed. After this the sinks and MQ unit will be operational once again.
Tomorrow morning there is an electrical shutdown between 7am-8am. During this time Sophie and I will power down all of the instrument and bring them back online after the power is restored. Please note that there could be issues with teh instruments after power cycling them so bare with us. The same will happen next Monday night between 9-10pm. This means there could be issues on the Tuesday with the mass specs.
The cooling unit for the AHU serving the clean labs and multi collector room remains broken. The part is on order and will be installed ASAP. During this time the temperature will be variable in this part of the lab.
Any issues just shout.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Just FYI the clean labs will be closed this Thursday 8th August so estates can fix the pump. Please avoid access to the lab during this time. I’ll update everyone when the work is completed.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi Everyone,
Chemistry is having problems with their fume cupboards so Estates need access to the roof. This means the extracted hoods and extracted instruments will not be running tomorrow, the hotplates will be turned off and the lab will effectively be closed on the 2nd of August (Friday). Please do not enter the lab until Lindsey has sent out an email confirming it is safe and all work on the roof has finished.
If you have any questions, please contact Lindsey (Sophie, Ed and myself will not be on-site tomorrow).
Many thanks,
Sofiya

Hi everyone,
With the fridge being broken, I've moved all the contents up to the cold room in 3.01. If anybody needs anything from there, please drop me or Lindsey a message (Imane is going on maternity leave next week so she won't be available to let you into the paleo labs).
Don't forget the labs are closed tomorrow, Friday 2/8/24. Please don't enter until you've received an email from Lindsey that it is safe to do so.
Many thanks,
Sofiya

Hi all,
Because of the summer vacation period we will pause the lab meetings for the rest of the summer. These will resume in September.

Hi all,
Advanced warning that the lab will be closed on the 26th and 27th September for the annual LEV testing and servicing. During this time there will be no access to the clean labs or instrument rooms. All fume cabinets will need to be cleared to allow the engineers to test and service them.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all
Please do not use any of the sinks in the clean labs and multi collector room as the pump has failed again. Estates are working on it but will likely be next week before it can be fixed. When they do the repair we will need to close the clean labs for 1/2 day. When the part arrives estates will give me a days notice for the lab closure.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
As we begin to see some semblance of summer now I need to remind you all about the mandatory PPE for working in the lab. It is a requirement to wear full length trousers and socks in the lab. Under no circumstances should you enter the lab (aka go beyond the step over) unless you are wearing full length trousers and socks. This means no shorts, skirts, 3/4 lengths, dresses, kilts, etc etc.
If you are working in the instrument rooms you must wear your blue lab coat and in the chemistry rooms opt for your white lab coat. For all liquid handling you must wear gloves, tyvek sleeve guards and safety glasses. Additional PPE for HF is detailed in the risk assessment for procedures using HF.
Cheers,
Edward
