Hi all,
As you are well aware I’m leaving the university in March. I thought we could go and be social on the evening of the 21st Feb? I’m going to see if tiny rebel will have us but I’ll send out more info when I’ve actually spoken to them.
Please mention to anyone I may have missed!
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Please can nobody touch the Neoma PC (or the instrument itself) please. There are some watch monitors running currently that need to remain undisturbed for the next 24 hours.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi everyone,
Just to let you guys know due to the work on the roof from the 24th-28th the stills won't be operational for that week. A new run literally just finished an hour ago, so there are 2 bottles of nitric upstairs (just brought a new one downstairs), and 2 bottles of HCL. I won't be able to run the stills until the 3rd of March, and that will take another 4 days to complete the run. Please take that into consideration for your upcoming procedures, the new HCL bottle I brought down yesterday afternoon is nearly empty so make sure the 2 bottles upstairs will be enough for your work 🙂
This isn't related to the AHU but some of you might have noticed I changed the labels on the bottles to be colour-coded. Single distilled is now green, double distilled is yellow, and HF remains red. This is to avoid confusion if in the future double distillation is done upstairs 🙂
Thanks everyone! Have a good one 🙂
Cheers,
Sofiya

Hi all,
Estates need to access the roof on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th Feb. This means that the lab will be closed on those dates. Please rearrange your bookings accordingly.
Note this will also affect the extraction to the instruments. The TIMS remains usable.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi all,
Tomorrow morning there will be an engineer from Anton Paar coming to install a new microwave digestion system in the clean lab. Be aware that it’s going to be a bit busy in the lab during that time.
Cheers,
Edward

Hi Everyone,
We currently have no heating in both clean labs and the Neoma instrument room and it's very cold. Estates are aware and are looking to resolve the issue asap. Ed is considering putting in some portable heaters, but in the meantime, please do not start any clean lab chemistry until it warms up again
I'll let you know when this is resolved.
Cheers,
Lindsey

Hi All,
We been notified today that Safety have been looking at the LEV 2 user log document again and HSE guidelines (HSG258) and think the current requirement to complete the log for each individual use of the LEV is too much. They are now happy for a single daily check recorded in the user log, and will produce a new user log that would just include three columns - the date, adding a tick to say visual and audio checks were completed, and adding some initials.
Each user would just need to check the log just to ensure the daily check has been formally completed - if it hasn't, then it can be done at that point (the first user that day gets to do it).
Safety will amend the LEV 2 user form and share it with us soon, but we can continue to use the original version we already have in place and the only change will be moving to recording daily LEV checks instead of needing to record the checks each time the LEV is used by a different person.
Sounds sensible.
Please alert all your lab users to this change.
Have a good weekend!
